Yoga Successes.
I admit that when my physiotherapist suggested Yoga, after my coach suggested yoga, to me I was a bit hesitant. I am a pretty physical person. I like to kick and punch and really work up a sweat, so standing on one leg at a funny position honestly seemed just plain dumb to me. But I have to admit it’s growing on me.
I love what yoga does for my ravaged left hip and bum muscles. It keeps them loose and happy and allows me to do these three runs a week without pain and feel like me again. I also picked hot yoga which I thought would not be my cup of tea either, but it adds that lovely sweat factor I didn’t think I’d get with yoga! Honestly, if I’m putting an hours work into something I want to feel like I did something and not just like I spent that time napping on the floor. I also enjoy the companionship. My coach does yoga, and we got together on Tuesday mornings. Granted 6:30am class that I need to get up at 5:30am for is not so much fun, but I get to grab coffee with her on the way to work and we chat as we go to work and I like that. It gives me my Cecilia fix when we are both swamped with work and life!
Lastly, I enjoy the quiet. The yoga place I go to has a strict quiet in the class rule, and it is enforced. I am pretty chatty by nature, and Cecilia neglected to tell me it was silent until we got there. Then she teased me about whether I could actually be quiet for that long. I responded as any mature adult would and stuck my tongue out at her. I learned from marathon training that being with my own thoughts for that long is not a big deal and gives me the freedom to process and figure out things going on in my head. So I enjoy listening to myself breather and processing my life one breath at a time. I don’t think I would have appreciated this before the marathon.
So I had a lovely time at yoga this week and look forward to another one on Tuesday next week!
