Snow day – part 1

For those of you who don’t live in southern Ontario, we got WHAMMED with a snow storm today! It’s been nicknamed Snowmageden! There were warnings about it yesterday so I asked my hubby to bring home his laptop so he could work from home if it was bad. It has been snowing since I woke up and still is coming down hard now at 3pm! Needless to say hubby has been working from home today. At 6:45am our daycare announced it would be closed today, and then at 7am my job (a university) closed due to the storm. That meant the girls and I got a snow day! So I decided to use my camera today to record our snow day, because real snow days don’t happen often!

After breakfast we started the day by going outside to shovel the foot of snow on the driveway. A neighbor from down the road used his snow blow to do half the side walks on our street. Two neighbors form the opposite corners worked their way down the block and both plowed every sidewalk up to one house that they both left. I guess no one likes those people. So we bundled up and spent a good hour outside just doing the drive way. By the time I hit the part where our driveway gets near the road, my neighbors (husband, wife and their two tween kids) had finished theirs, and they came to help me finish mine. Some people are so nice!

After we came in Katrina was freezing so they chased each other around the house for a bit while I secretly mixed up a batch of sugar cookies. They tried to use a push toy as a stroller so I got the real one and they took turns going for rides. Then I cut out cloth hearts so they could paint them for their daycare teachers’ Valentine’s card. They has a blast and once they were done Katrina went down for a nap, and Lillian demanded lunch. She enjoyed her grilled cheese and apples. When Steve came down for lunch I went back outside and shoveled again.

Once I got back inside Lillian and I made sugar cookies while Katrina napped. Once she woke up she got lunch, while Lillian and I made more cookies. After her meal Katrina took over helping with cookies while Lillian watched some Dora. Katrina enjoys stabbing the cookie dough and rolling it out and eating the cookies once they were baked.

I plan to deliver some of them as a thank you to our neighbors for helping me to shovel my driveway. And now I’m off to have more Snow Day fun with the girls. More photos and adventures to follow tomorrow.
