Running confession.
I can already hear my running BFF’s voice in my head. I heard it every time I looked at my watch on my ‘easy’ 5km run on Wednesday night.
I came home for a 2 hour board meeting and was just spent mentally and needed the refresher that running gives me. So I changed out of my work clothes, laced up my shoes, strapped on a bit of reflective gear, and headed out for a nice little 5km run at 9:15pm. I’m not one to usually run so late at night, but it was coolish and the mornings haven’t been going so well for me so I decided to just bite the bullet and get the run over with despite the long day, and as they often do the run went better than expected. In fact the run went amazing.
I ran by feel. I ran to get the stress out. I ran to feel alive, and to remind myself that I can do anything, and sure enough every time I looked down at my watch my pace was fast. Not just fast for an easy run, but fast for a tempo run. My moving pace was 6:55 on average and the tempo part of my tempo runs are supposed to be 6:50 and the warm up/cool down knocks it down a lot. So that says something.
I’m not supposed to run so fast, on easy little runs. I know this, and I avoid doing it. But sometimes, I just let my body go on auto pilot and do what needs doing. Apparently on Wednesday night I needed to really run.
