Adventures in Country Running: the Pheasant Edition
There are things that you worry about when you’re running, things like your stroller going down a hill or your dog pulling you down a hill or dudes in vans who stop to ask you about your dog and then abduct you but the last thing I ever thought would give me trouble when running is pheasants. Picasso and I were attacked by a crazy psycho pheasant who seemed to think that us running by its nest was a reason to freak out. So here’s what happened.
We were doing sprints while running today and I was running fast, and I heard rustling in the bush. I glanced over quickly to see a sparrow fly by and then out of the corner of my eye I saw it. The bird came flying out of the bush and came after us, and actually landed on my dog! I pulled her leash and knocked it off and it came flying back at us, so we huffed it and ran faster than the evil bird could fly. It was absolutely CRAZY! Now I can laugh about it and my husband wanted to know why I didn’t take a photo of it with my ipod, and frankly all I could do was run the hell away from that evil bird!!
So the lesson of today’s blog is avoid running right along the bush so that if some crazy evil bush animal runs or flies out at you, you have a chance to get away before it scratches or pecks your eyes out!
