Family Vacation – part 1
In July we headed off on a week long trip to a cottage with my mother, stepfather, hubby and kidlets. We had a wonderful time! It was an adventure for the girls and while there were some challenges to this with two small kiddies I am glad we did it. So here is my vacation recap.
We started the vacation by me getting away for a day of relaxation with Cecilia, while my hubby went to a family reunion with the girls. When I got home after our day I packed up the bags, and figured out what what needed to be packed on Sunday. Then we fed our girls, loaded the car while Steve took the girls to the park to keep them out of my hair. After that we drove up to Grand Bend on Sunday afternoon and go unloaded at the cottage. Steve and I got unpacked and dressed everyone in bathing suits, and hit the beach. The girls loved the sand, but the water not so much! We took them in and they had meltdowns so we let the just play around in the sand and build sandcastles. Okay, by that I mean I built sand castles and then Katrina ran around and knocked them all down! Good times.
The next day we hit the beach again, and this time mommy dug a really big hole. Then everyone took turns sitting in the hole and trying to save daddy from the really big hole. We had a great time, and ended the day with a bon fire. Steve was talking about the fire for a while and we had to keep telling Lillian to wait a bit longer, and to wait until the sun was down, and she didn’t want to wait. So they had smores and roasted marshmallows and spent time with grandpa!
On Wednesday, we had a great day taking the girls into Bayfield, the local little town. We packed a picnic and hit the playground where the girls ran around like crazy. They even ventured to the splash pad despite it being quite cold, but Katrina was pretty hesitant about the water. She kept running into and out of the water. It was funny. Steve went in with them, and noted that the water was really warm but the air was cold, so you pretty much had to stay in the water. After that they enjoyed ice cream and strolled to the library while mommy shopped a bit. Little black dress anyone?
That evening we dined at a restaurant called the Hessenland Inn. I had to laugh because my family is originally from the province of Hessen in Germany, so we enjoyed some real German food. We ate Jager Schnitzel and the girls even tried some. My mom said she loved having a really nice meal that was so traditionally German. I’m really glad that we were able to do that. Steve and I wanted to take them out for a meal, so this worked out well for everyone!
More to come later, but for now here are some super cute photos!
