Getting my Run on!
This is the post I need to get out of the way because other than a lot of boot camp in June I haven’t really been doing the running consistently that I would expect of myself. I know I’m a lazy butt and let me tell you my body and legs are feeling it! I’m feeling really slugish and stressed out all the time! So what does that mean? I think it’s time to start training for another race. I’ve picked out a half marathon to run in early November, so that I will have time to complete all the necessary training (hurray 15 weeks), and build up my running from 8km to 21km again. I’m not planning to rock the race and beat my PR, we’ll save that for the race in April. Right now I want to get my running ability back up to half-marathon distance so that next year I can rock a few half-marathons.
Right now I’m excited about my race plans and nervous. I’m nervous because I know realistically I have a lot on my plate already for September and October workwise, so I want to relax with running, but at the same time I know that if I have too much expected of myself then I may get more stressed out, and that will undo the running happy vibes. But I figure it I set myself up with 3 runs a week, one easy, one tempo and one long, that should build me up to 21km distance, and leave me 1 cross training day, 2 days of rest, and one day of either cross training or rest, whatever my body needs.
Right now my hope is to run the Hamilton half-marathon that takes place on November 3rd. I won’t register for it until the end of September or even early October, but that’s okay. It has some serious advantages, such as my father in law living in Hamilton which allows me to have a place to stay where I don’t need to stress about food, sleeping the night before, getting a ride there, and so on and if we have to bring the girls, they will be able to sleep in one room with Steve while I rest in Steve’s old bedroom.
The other cool part about running this particular half marathon is that my running coach will be off running one of her bucket list marathons at the same time that I would be running this race. So that means we’d both be running at the same time just in different cities and countries, but since running together in spirit! Something nice about knowing someone else is running in spirit with you!
Then in December I’ll be turning 30, so I’m already thinking about that I want to do next year to celebrate this, but I will for sure be running a 30km race of some kind next year. I know Around the Bay is 30km and I would have loads of time to train from November to March, but if that doesn’t work out I know I can find other races that are the same distance as my age! But more on that later.
For now, you should know that I will be starting up my training Tuesday posts again, to summarize how my training is going. Wish me luck!
