2012 Running Summary!

Wow! 2012 was a very big year for me in running!

I may not be allowed to run for the next little bit while my knee heals, but it’s not a big deal because my 2012 was a fantastic year for running. I ran a total of 1,672.85km in a year! That gives me an average of 4.58km each and every day of that year! This is a crazy amount and makes me really proud! Since January 2010 when I started really running I have run 4,081kms! My highest distance month was August with 219.17km which makes sense since my marathon was in October, and September had tapering. My lowest month was 52.65km which was November when I was recovering from the marathon.

Awesome coach! Awesome marathon! Awesome race!

My first major accomplishment for the year was successfully running my marathon! I could not be prouder of myself to have finished the race and gotten through 26 long, hard weeks of training. I completed the race in 5:13:57 which was more than my goal time but considering how difficult the race felt in the second half when my butt started to hurt I am so proud of myself. I expected myself to cry my eyes out at the finish but I didn’t. I cried a bit during the race, but afterwards I had nothing in me to cry about. I wanted to since that is what I have done at every other race, but I just couldn’t after the race. It was a hard running the race, but the one things you never think of is the fact that after the race you will have to walk to your vehicle, and that was horrible!

Rocking my half-marathon!

I also managed to rock a few race distances this year. I smashed through my old half-marathon distance time going from 2:30:48 to 2:21:58 when I ran the Waterloo Half Marathon again! Additionally, I knocked my best 5km time down to 30:02 and that includes my best time ever, whether it be training runs or races. I was a bit bummed that I missed breaking 30 minutes by only 3 seconds, but that gives me a new goal for running.

The Re-Fridgee-Eighter. The first of many 2012 races!

So my 2012 was filled with many wonderful races (6 that I ran), but with so many more memorable miles of running with my husband, my girls, my coach, and with my thoughts. I managed to destroy three pairs of shoes in all my running and almost destroyed my ipod nano more than once. I wiped out once that I can remember, but not bad enough to stop running that day, was bit by a dog, got scared by a snake, gave three people directions, saved 6 baby snapping turtles, and got myself into a healthy body weight and learned to love the new me I’ve become.

As much as I would love to list a whole bunch of races, and goals that I have set up for 2013, but I’m going to be smart about this year. I hurt my butt and hip training for my marathon, and am now getting the help I need to strength those achy muscles, so I had to put my plans on hold to run the Waterloo half-marathon, which is fine. I also want to have another baby, and I need to focus on staying healthy so that I can do what’s best for myself and my family! Hurray for a new year with new goals and new runs!
