Day 3: My Killer 5k Run
So recently my hubby did an easy 5k run in about 37 minutes and when I saw that number on the watch it made me really competitive and I just HAD to beat him! So when I went out I went out hard and really pushed myself to run faster. I ended up doing the same route in 33:13 and smashed his time by 4 whole minutes. Woot! I know it’s silly to feel so competitive with my husband but I feel like he’s so much better than me at so many things, and when he comes into one of the areas that I am better at I get very protective.
I can sew, bake, cook and run longer distances better than he can. But he’s taller, stronger, better with computers, more creative, a better writer, and the list goes on. So when he tries to get into the kitchen, my self-esteem chases him right back out. I know I need to work on this and not see him wanting to help me as a threat to my areas of skill. I guess I have a lot of soul searching to do in the new year but that’s another post entirely.
One positive thing this competition has lead to is I am training to beat my current record for a 5km run. I currently have a record of 30:02 and I really would like to break that 30 minute mark. So I am now working on speed work that will allow me to crush this time. Currently I am not signed up for a 5km race but I figure I can set up one myself to get my chance of rocking that distance. So wish me luck because if I am going to do this in the next year or so I need to do it pretty soon just in case I get knocked up as easily as I have the past two times.
So I better get my butt in gear and rock out this 5k!
