Re-Fridgee-Eighter Results!
February 12, 2012 – Pre-Re-Fridgee-Eighter race |
I woke up far too early this morning for a race, to feed a beautiful baby girl, who nicely went back to sleep right away and let me sleep a little longer before having to get up. I got up, made my oatmeal, dressed, fed Katrina again, loaded the car, stressed about the snow and headed out to pick up Cecilia. Once we get there, we parked, signed in and picked what shoes, shirts, etc.. we would wear of the selections we each brought with it.
By 10am the weather was cold, but I guess that’s why it’s called the Re-Fridgee-Eighter. We had -7 which was -14 with windchill, cloudy and winds of 22km/hr which included gusts of 41km. So quite nippy but since this is a Re-Fridgee-Eighter we sucked it up and headed out. Good thing I’m a winter baby, so the cold doesn’t phase me as much as some.
The race was great. I managed to come in 2nd last of all the people running, but that’s okay. I have to realize that this is only my second race post baby, and if you try to compare it to my half-marathon before I got pregnant you need to realize that I’m currently 17lbs heavier and it’s not sunny September (2010). If you think about 17lbs, that’s my baby in baby harness! So I would not have done so well in my other race if I’d had to carry a baby through it with me. My pace was 7:43 which is so much slower than my goal, but I did manage to crush the Horror Hill pace from October. I also finished without falling (though my Yak Traks are broken so I’ll be going back to the store and already sent the company an email expressing my disappointment in their product), and did not get a tummy ache from my awesome brunch after. I have to say I loved the food and think we have found a new brunch place. I also, managed to run a steady pace for the first 11.2km of the race and then when I hit the wind straight on had to do a 4 minute job, 1 minute walk in order to finish up strong, but that’s okay.
So while I may not have been as fast as I would have liked, I got up and I ran. I now have another race, and another distance under my belt in my journey to be healthy. Tomorrow, I shall rest up and Tuesday I’ll hit boot camp and begin training for my half-marathon in April once again. Plus remember, compared to my other, faster races, I was carrying 35 half pound babies all over me today, so next time I’ll have less of those and will be faster!
