School excitment and Woots!

So I am all ready and signed up for my Statistics course and not only have the textbook, but I’ve started the readings and homework already. Oh who am I kidding, I not only started them, I’m all the way through week 1 and into week 2. Now that might sound a little bit crazy considering that I am 10 days away from the first day of class, but I’m a nerd and a keener, so that’s just how I am! I’ll be there day one, first row, ready to learn!

My plan to get through my course with all the crazy things happening is simple, start early. I know I have so much that I need to do for work, that’s the only way I can get through my class work. I plan to rock my homework, and get it all done, so that all I have to do is attend the lectures, and take notes. The readings, the homework assignments plus additional questions will be done. I just have to walk to the classroom, which lucky for me happens to be on the first floor of my building, listen for an hour, and then head back to my office. I can do this. I have enough flex time banked that I won’t have to make up any of my class time, so that will help me once we’re out of the busy time too. Less stress to take a course, since I don’t have to work extra early or late, to make up the lecture time. And there are only two tests and I have them in our family calendar so we will be fine

And as an added bonus to starting to early, I am actually learning things that are coming in handy at the office. I honestly took this on because I feel sometimes like I’m missing things because I don’t know the basic terminology in my department. So I did week one0321652800, and it’s all about mean and median and making dot graphs and histograms, and such. A while back my boss mentioned it would be nice to have some graphs to demonstrate our course averages and how they fluctuate termly and based on each other. Usually I jump on things like this for him, but I wasn’t sure what he wanted and honestly was a bit unsure what he wanted. He sent me to talk to one member in our department who did them before, but he was on leave, so I couldn’t. So I just didn’t start these and then they disappeared from my board. Yes that was on purpose! But then while I was doing my homework, and drawing all these graphs, I realized I could do these. I emailed my boss the next morning asking if he still wanted those graphs, because I had just learned about them in my course readings. He wrote back yes, and said how he wanted them, and I COMPLETELY understood him! I threw together a sketch to make sure and ran to his office, and I was exactly right. We went back and forth a minute working out minor details like dots with lines and such, and now when I have some time after my crazy period, I get to practice my course work and make my boss happy at the same time. That’s a win win!

My boss’ boss even joked she would get my professor to assign me a ‘special assignment’ so that I would get extra practice and we’d get some statistics some some things we’ve all been curious about for a while. Oh well, I guess my boss beat her to it without even realizing it!
