Big plans for 2014, my 30th year!

So I had an absolutely crazy and BRILLIANT idea! In December I will turn 30 years old. This means the start of a new decade of my life and a real reason to celebrate everything that I have achieved during my 20’s! So I have come up with a clever, mathematical way to celebrate this wonderful year. My running BFF wanted to do 13 x 13.1 mile races in 2013, but injury and getting into NYC marathon stopped that so I’m picking up the crazy math celebration for her!

My goal, is to run all the race multiples of 30, between January 1st, 2014 and my 31st birthday in December 2014! That gives me 11.5 months to run all 12 of those races. Now you may be wondering what exactly I mean by all the race multiples of 30. Simple, the distances must work out as a multiple of 30, and the quantity of the races, must also be a multiple of 30. So that means I will be running the following races in 2014:

  • 1 race of 30km
  • 2 races of 15km
  • 3 races of 10km
  • 6 races of 5km

I informed my running BFF about this and before you know it she sent me a bunch of races that are 15km and close enough to run and a few other races that are local-ish. I say local-ish because that means in our town, early morning driving distance from our town (so you can leave the morning of the race and be fine) or in one of my parents’ / in-laws towns. Just adding the grandparents cities, gives me Essex county, Hamilton, and Chatham-Kent, so that is pretty cool. So I have created a new category in my pages at the top called “30th year!” where I will be tracking all of these lovely races as I complete them. Right now the pages is filled with all my various options, leaving things open for me to review and investigate as the date draws near.

All I know for sure right now is that I’ll start the plan off with the Resolution Run on January 1st, since it’s in Kitchener and super easy to knock one of the list the first day. And I will end the year on the Santa Pursuit, since it’s early December but literally 3km from my house, which you cannot beat. I also know that Around the Bay will be my 30km race, as it’s in my husband’s hometown, which means we can crash at my father-in-law’s house, and you can’t beat a free bed, easy cheering squad sleeping/eating place, help to control the kids, and easy to and from the race.

So wish me luck on this crazy adventure I’ll be planning for the next 5 months and then embarking on come my 30th birthday!
